Wow! We asked you to help choose the name of RAD Studio 13 and clearly it captured your imagination. You voted in your thousands to choose between our shortlist finalists of Florence or Syracuse. Both cities are absolutely stunning examples of the best in architecture as well as being the birthplace of at least one giant of science, art, and the Renaissance. It was so hard for us to choose, and that’s why we thought it would be a great idea for you to help us decide and also give you the opportunity to participate in choosing the theme of the next major release of RAD Studio.
Who won, Florence or Syracuse?
It was a tight race – in the end though a clear winner sneaked ahead… Florence!

So, the next version of RAD Studio will be RAD Studio 13 Florence.
Why did we offer you a choice of two names instead of being able to suggest one?
This was a frequently asked question – why did we not let people simply suggest a name? Well, there were a few places on the huge array of social media groups where users commented offering their own preferred names. They perfectly illustrated the point: almost everyone suggested a different name! We had everything from a town in Poland, Siemieniakowszczyzna, with a population of 42 – a worthy suggestion, but the 20-letter name might be tricky to get right even if you are Polish – to Rio (we already had a Rio). We also had some slightly less serious suggestions such as “Delphi Codey McCodeface”, a product of a British meme for wacky names. In the end, the threads did exactly what we suspected, each person chose a name dear to their heart which resulted in dozens of names with only one vote. 😁
RAD Studio 13 Florence

The choice of Florence is, of course, entirely relevant to the current age we live in where AI is really capturing people’s imaginations, enabling capabilities that were previously only science fiction, and helping us work smarter, not harder. Florence is the birthplace of the great visionary polymath Leonardo Da Vinci, a man who dared to dream big and looked into the future to accurately predict such things as helicopters a full five hundred years before they became a reality. I wonder how he would have applied that capacious imagination of his to the topic of Artificial Intelligence?
Second place city choice, Syracuse also lays claim to an association with genius, being the birthplace of Archimedes, mathematician, engineer, physicist, and astronomer. Two wonderful locations with such rich cultural backgrounds and diverse histories covering the evolution of modern science and an enviable unparalleled contribution to art. We look forward to using them as an inspiration for the coming year as we work hard to bring you RAD Studio 13 Florence. Thank you for voting!

I’d rather have it “Firenze” 🙂
Excellent idea, Florence and Firenze it is! 🤪
WebAssembly as target PLS
We get quite a few people mention this. Right now we don’t really have much more to say about it but I am very interested to hear what you would want to see from a WebAssembly (WASM) target. Would you expect to see it work like creating some blocks of regular assembly code or simply a whole Delphi program compiled down into WASM like a native packaging for exes? I am guessing you would want it to appear in the project manager view like Windows 32bit, Windows 64bit, macOS, and so on appear, is that right?
Given that it will be RAD 300, Sparta would have been an awesome name!
“This is Sparta!”
